Founded in 2008 by citizens determined to renew political life in Laval, Mouvement Lavallois was born from a desire to give residents a stronger voice and place the public interest back at the centre of municipal decision-making. At a time when public confidence in institutions was declining, the party advanced a vision rooted in integrity, transparency and citizen engagement.

This commitment to doing politics differently led to the election of Marc Demers as Mayor of Laval in 2013. Under his leadership, the city undertook a major transformation marked by efforts to combat corruption, strengthen governance and restore public trust in municipal administration. The Mouvement Lavallois administration also made its mark by protecting wetlands, preserving green spaces and promoting a sustainable approach to land-use planning and development.

In 2021, Stéphane Boyer succeeded Marc Demers as Mayor of Laval, opening a new chapter in the history of Mouvement Lavallois. Building on the movement’s core values of integrity, sound governance and sustainable development, his administration has placed a strong emphasis on innovation, the modernization of municipal services and the delivery of transformative projects. It has also pursued a clear ambition: to enhance Laval’s profile and influence so that Quebec’s third-largest city receives the recognition, infrastructure and resources it needs to support its development and the well-being of its rapidly growing population.

Today, Mouvement Lavallois remains true to its mission: building a city that is more modern, more efficient, greener and more influential. Guided by the belief that a strong democracy depends on an engaged population and trusted institutions, the movement continues its commitment to improving the quality of life of Laval residents and shaping the future of Laval.
